Corporate Policies

The Legacy Company has identified three priority themes, which will underpin every aspect of our work, in areas such as internal operations to planning legacy communities, to defining operating arrangements for venues, and beyond. The themes reflect the political priorities of the Company’s founder members, partners and stakeholders, and the unique context of the Company’s work. The three themes are:

Promoting convergence and community participation

For the goal of convergence to be achieved, the Olympic Park legacy needs to be as accessible as possible for local people. This means ensuring that the development plans for the Park are developed with consistent participation from local residents, that economic opportunities are accessible to local people, businesses and social enterprises, and that sporting, cultural and leisure facilities and events in the Park can be used and enjoyed by local people at all income levels.

Championing equalities and inclusion

The Olympic Park lies in one of the most diverse areas of the UK. In addition to statutory duties, the Company will need to take this diversity into account in order to attract the best talent, to understand how its decisions impact on different communities and groups, and to create and manage parkland, venues, homes, events, and commercial and retail opportunities that capitalise on, are accessible to, and are responsive to the needs of such a diverse community.

Ensuring high quality design and sustainability

The London 2012 organisers have developed a sustainability plan (Towards a One Planet 2012, London 2012, December 2009), which builds on commitments made in the Olympic bid. Establishing clear standards for environmental performance, architectural and urban design, and other sustainability aspects will be essential in planning, commissioning and operating venues, events and new neighbourhoods.

We are developing detailed policies in order to ensure these themes are reflected across our work programmes. We are currently consulting on our Equality and Inclusion policy and Inclusive Design Strategy, and your feedback is welcomed.
