WHO WE ARE

The Olympic Park Legacy Company was established in May 2009 by the Mayor of London and central government. Baroness Ford of Cunninghame has been appointed as Chair and Andrew Altman as Chief Executive. The Company's Board was established in November 2009.

Our Aim:

The Olympic Park Legacy Company aims to create a lasting legacy from the London 2012 Games by developing the Park to become, in time, a new and prosperous metropolitan area of the city.

Who we are:

The Company is the public sector, not-for-profit company responsible for the long term planning, development, management and maintenance of the Olympic Park and its facilities after the London 2012 Games.

What we will achieve:

  • a new 'Great Park' for London distinguished by beautiful waterways and green open spaces that will host leisure, sporting and cultural events of all sizes for everyone - from the local community to national and international visitors
  • housing including significant levels of homes for families with a range of affordability. These communities will blend the best of London's terraced housing traditions with unrivalled access to nature, schools, social infrastructure and some of the best sporting facilities in the world
  • a site that is physically, economically and socially interconnected with the surrounding communities, thereby boosting regeneration across East London
  • a premier centre for sport and leisure building on the heritage of the 2012 Games to activate the Park and use sport as ameans for driving economic and social opportunities
  • a distinctive campus environment to attract new sectors of London's economy including research, innovation andmedia as well as new business clusters that contribute to London's competitive advantage
  • high quality neighbourhoods, superior quality public spaces and excellent estatemanagement creating a place that works and provides value for money

How we will do it:

  • We will work in partnership with the Government, the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority, the five Olympic Host Boroughs, residents in the neighbouring local communities, local organisations, businesses and local regeneration delivery agencies and the many other partners in both the public and private sector, including national and international sporting, cultural and leisure organisations
  • We will use our public assets to lever in and secure private investment for the development of the Park
  • We will set standards for the quality of design, construction and urban planning which will ensure a sustainable and long term legacy for the Park.

  • Attracting commercial businesses and investment and promoting opportunities for development and events
  • Promoting Lower Lea Valley as a location of choice

Our Four Phases of Delivery

2010-2011: planning and promotion
The Company is currently focused on developing its strategy and beginning to promote the Olympic Park as a destination for events, leisure and investment. We are strengthening relationships with the host boroughs and communities that live around the site as well as potential institutional, educational and employment anchors.


2011-2012: partnerships and procurement
The Company's second full year of operation will see the appointment of key partners and service providers as well as securing updated planning permission to enable seamless transition and handover after the 2012 Games and transformation of the Olympic Park.


2012-2013: reinstatement and handover
The Company will work closely with the Olympic Delivery Authority who will lead the transformation of the Park, which includes the dismantling of temporary venues and facilities in use during the 2012 Games. The Company will take control as parts of the Park begin to reopen from summer 2013.


2013-2018: activation and regeneration
During the first five years of development, the Company will open venues and the Olympic Park to the public with an exciting programme of sporting, cultural and commercial events, which will establish the Park as an essential destination for Londoners, visitors and investors.n our social, environmental and economic vision for this area.

Founders

The Olympic Park Legacy Company has been established by central government  - Department for Communities and Local Government and Department for Culture, Media and Sport - and the Mayor of London. The Company is responsible for focusing on delivering one of the five Olympic legacy promises in the original 2012 bid to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) - The Physical Legacy of the Park. The Company is also working with partners to ensure its agenda contributes towards the other legacy promises.
