THE PARK

The London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games are the first of their kind - a Games being built on a long-term vision of vibrant, mixed-used and integrated communities that benefit not just London but the UK as a whole. From its inception the Olympic Park has been designed with the future in mind including key infrastructure and long-term business planning to deliver an invigorated East End of parklands, homes, shops, businesses, sporting and cultural activities, education and health care facilities.

The delivery of this vision will be led by the Olympic Park Legacy Company in four initial phases:

2010-2011: planning and promotion
The Company is currently focused on developing its strategy and beginning to promote the Olympic Park as a destination for events, leisure and investment. We are strengthening relationships with the host boroughs and communities that live around the site as well as potential institutional, educational and employment anchors.

2011-2012: partnerships and procurement
The Company's second full year of operation will see the appointment of key partners and service providers as well as securing updated planning permission to enable seamless transition and handover after the 2012 Games and transformation of the Olympic Park.

2012-2013: reinstatement and handover
The Company will work closely with the Olympic Delivery Authority who will lead the transformation of the Park, which includes the dismantling of temporary venues and facilities in use during the 2012 Games. The Company will take control as parts of the Park begin to reopen from summer 2013.

2013-2018: activation and regeneration
During the first five years of development, the Company will open venues and the Olympic Park to the public with an exciting programme of sporting, cultural and commercial events, which will establish the Park as an essential destination for Londoners, visitors and investors.

After the Games, there will be five permanent Olympic and Paralympic venues and the Media Centre, which new communities will be built around, ensuring that the infrastructure from the Games continues to be used for generations to come. The venues are:
