Venues for the future

The London 2012 Games will of course leave behind some of the best sporting and recreation facilities the capital and country has ever seen. This includes the Olympic Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, the VeloPark and many open spaces throughout the Park.

World-class facilities for sport and play

After the Games, these sites will be transformed so that they can be used by local people, clubs and organisations, as well as high performance athletes. The aim is that these facilities will promote healthy living, inspire physical activity and participation in sport. They'll also help train future champions and attract major sporting events, visitors and business.

The big venues listed below will be complemented by a range of new facilities and outdoor spaces designed for sports, recreation and play in and around the Park.

Olympic Stadium

At the heart of the Park, the Olympic Stadium will be a world-class athletics venue. It will host
major international championships and many other sporting fixtures, including concerts and arts
events.

We're currently working with London United and England 2018 to examine the feasibility of the
Olympic Stadium as a venue for the FIFA 2018 World Cup.

Currently, we are seeking a solution for the long-term use of the Olympic Stadium after the London 2012 Games that maximises value for money in serving both the needs of the local community and elite sport.

Following a positive response to our soft market testing exercise earlier this year, we are inviting bids for the right to lease the Stadium on a commercial long-term basis following the 2012 Games. For more information, visit our dedicated Olympic Stadium page.

Aquatics Centre

One of the main gateways to the Park, the Aquatics Centre is a truly iconic building with two 50
metre swimming pools and a 25 metre diving pool, with training facilities, meeting rooms, a sports
science space, crèche and café.

The Aquatics Centre will be transformed after the Games for public use and athlete training, with
plenty of room for spectators at major events.

The pools have innovative movable walls and floors that mean the large pools can be made
smaller for different uses. The facility will be available for local schools, which is a real advantage
when London only has one other 50 metre pool for public use.

A world-class facility for competitive and leisure cycling, the VeloPark will be available for hire, club
and recreation usage, with bike rental, events and retail space.

Run by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, the VeloPark will be an elite athlete, club, and recreational usage facility. It will have a performance cycling arena featuring a 250m indoor track, an outdoor BMX course, mountain bike trails and a road cycle circuit to follow. The VeloPark will be a dedicated venue for the recreation, training and competitive needs of all types of cyclists at all
levels.

The Multi-Use Arena, also known as Arena 3 or the Handball Arena during the Games, is a 6,000
spectator capacity venue that will host a variety of indoor sports, including basketball, handball,
badminton, netball and volleyball.

The Arena will be one of the first venues to open after the Games and is located on the west of
the Park close to Hackney Wick Station. It is well connected with the rest of the Park and will
include a health and fitness club and café for the local community.

Its flexible design means it will be used for all levels of sports participation and non sporting
events, from cultural and business events to high performance training to community use.

With a sporting history dating back over a century, the Eton Manor site in Waltham Forest will
continue this tradition long after the Games, hosting a broad mix of sports facilities for athletes
and the community.

Run by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Eton Manor will comprise a 3,000 capacity hockey
stadium and four indoor and six outdoor tennis courts. It is expected that a five-a-side football
pitches will also be developed after the Games.

Press and Broadcast Centres

Aside from the sporting facilities, one of the most significant developments within the Olympic
Park, and the chief business space legacy, are the Press and Broadcast Centres, which during the
2012 Games will be referred to as the Main Press Centre (MPC) and the International Broadcast
Centre (IBC).

Located in the north-west corner of the Park, these will be home to the world's media for the 2012
Games, providing office and studio space for 20,000 journalists and broadcasters.

We are committed to the Press and Broadcast Centres becoming a major employment site after
the Games. The buildings have been designed to ensure that they have the flexibility to be
adapted to a wide range of uses, to maximise their potential after the Games. Hackney Wick
station is only a 10 minute walk away and the site also boasts great green credentials, with a
'brown' roof and a central heating plant.

We are presently looking into a range of uses and possibilities for the Press and
Broadcast Centres, so watch this space for further details in the future.
