Sport

Everyone’s an athlete

The next twenty years will see the Park emerge as a national and international destination, where you can find the best of London, in one place.

The magic and spirit of the world’s greatest sporting festival will live on in the Park’s five sporting venues.

In the south plaza, the two main London 2012 venues – the Stadium and the Aquatics Centre – will be at the heart of an exciting new visitor experience.

The north park will be home to the UK’s only VeloPark offering a purpose-built road cycle circuit, the Velodrome, BMX tracks and mountain-bike trails. This is further complemented by the mixed-use sports facilities at Eton Manor – both operated by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority.

Together, these London 2012 venues will be the platform to deliver a genuine sporting legacy, encouraging excellence from national and international competition to local clubs and school leagues.

They will set the tone for the Park, where the focus will be on active and outdoor living: sport, recreation and play.

The Park will be one of the most accessible destinations in London, enjoying the highest levels of inclusive design enabling athletes with a disability, all visitors and residents to make full use of these facilities.

The south plaza will be the first area to re-open after the Games, with a rolling programme of sporting and cultural events from 2013 onwards.

Residents and visitors will enjoy watching and taking part in sporting competitions, which will see local users sharing facilities with the new generation of elite athletes in training.

The promise made during London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Games – of a true sporting legacy for all – will be delivered, day-in, day-out.
