A Lasting Legacy

Creating a new metropolitan area of the city

Our ambition to transform

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games present a unique opportunity to establish the foundations of a profound, lasting legacy for the capital and the nation.

In the years following the Games, our goal is to transform the Olympic Park into a new and thriving metropolitan area of the capital - not just a group of projects, but a place of local, national and international significance.

We want the Park to be a great home for its residents, an area where local people and businesses can flourish and a popular destination for visitors from around the world. There will be vibrant new neighbourhoods in which to live, work and play, carefully planned and integrated with existing communities.

With new homes, great transport links, well-planned business infrastructure and enormous employment opportunities, the Park will be a catalyst for the economic regeneration of the Lower Lee Valley and east London - an essential location boasting world class sports facilities and venues, to be enjoyed by everyone.

Working together towards the legacy

The Olympic Park Legacy Company leads the partnership that is planning, promoting and delivering this exciting legacy. No host city has ever established such an organisation for its Olympic legacy so far in advance of the Games.

Although the first building blocks of this legacy are already in place, we don't have all the answers yet. It will take time to deliver economic, sustainable, social and physical regeneration that is truly integrated, inclusive and accessible.  This can only be achieved by working with local residents, businesses, investors and other stakeholders and partners from across the public, private and voluntary sectors.

We have developed strong partnerships with  key public sector bodies to deliver this vision. These include the five host boroughs, the Mayor of London, the Olympic Delivery Authority, UK government, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority,  London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and national sporting governing bodies.
